Please keep in mind that this post is really about the mechanics of wolves climbing trees. The big ones are balancing, negating falling damage and tumbling. PCs chasing, climbing, and swimming are all Athletics, while attempting to balance on something is Acrobatics. There’s a lot to break down here, and I feel it is worth going over these options. My current DM disagrees. The dm declared it would be an acrobatics check to climb, which of course I can't feasibly do, especially with difficulty of the climb. If you HAVE to interact with those objects to get there, it's acrobatics. Acrobatics: Safe Landing, Tightrope Walking, Contortion, Rope Swinging, Tumbling (Strength-based Acrobatics?), Escape Artistry, Freerunning, Power Ranger moves, Cartwheels, Handstands, anything that requires stunts, flips, swings and tricky or gross motor skills.
